WiseTip #200 · TUE

01 · Opening

Raising with intention.

The remote was on the table for three days. Nobody touched it. What filled the gap was not remarkable — a puzzle, a book, the cat. The remarkable thing was how unremarkable it was.

"We didn't take away their screens. We forgot the cable. They did the rest."

02 · Story

We have a theory about boredom. It is almost certainly wrong.

Boredom is not a gap. It is not the space between activities that children need to "learn to fill." That framing implies that boredom is the problem and imagination is the solution.

The theory is that what screens replace is not imagination. It is the low-grade discomfort of not knowing what you want to do next. That discomfort resolves itself in about eight minutes if nothing interrupts it.

03 · Reflection

What the editors keep returning to is not the absence of the screen but the absence of the negotiation around it. No bargaining, no timers, no "five more minutes."

Readers

What 2,100 families say.

"I read a lot of parenting content and most of it makes me feel worse. WiseTip makes me feel like someone is thinking carefully and handing me something real."

Mother of two · Amsterdam

"The bilingual part matters to us. Our children read it in Spanish. My husband reads it in English. We talk about it over dinner on Tuesdays. That was not planned."

Parent · Mexico City

"I subscribed because of the screen thing. I stayed because of the writing. The activity block alone has saved more than one Sunday afternoon."

Father of three · Toronto · WiseTip+ member
WiseTip · Four parents, four cities

Four voices. One purpose.

WiseTip is not one person's blog. Four parents writing from four cities, taking turns, never performing.
